History was made last night as the Upper Dauphin Area (UDA) girls’ wrestling team competed in the first-ever PIAA-sanctioned District III Team Dual Championships. Competing on the mats at Gettysburg High School, the Trojans showcased their trademark "pin-fall" mentality, finishing the evening with a 1-1 record against two state ranked programs.
First Round: UDA Overpowers Chambersburg
UDA 47 Chambersburg 29
UDA opened the tournament with an aggressive display of bonus-point wrestling. The Trojans won 8 of the 13 bouts, with an incredible seven of those wins coming via pin or technical fall.
Lightweight Dominance: The dual started with a bang as Cambrie Herb (100) secured a fall in 1:43. After a brief setback at 106, the trio of Layla Smith (112), Jenna Teeter (118), and Jada Dillard (124) rattled off three straight pins to put UDA in the driver's seat.
Technical Masterclass: Marjorie Hoffman-Long (142) provided the most lopsided victory of the round, scoring at will for a 20-4 Technical Fall in just 2:30.
The Closer: Heavyweight Chloe Ratcliffe (235) needed only 29 seconds to stick her opponent, putting the final exclamation point on the opening-round win.
Quarter-Finals: Host Warriors Edge Out Trojans
Gettysburg 41 UDA 30
In the Quarter-Final round, UDA faced the host team, Gettysburg. In a hostile environment, the Trojans fought for every inch, but the Warriors' depth eventually tipped the scales. Despite the team loss, UDA’s stars continued to shine individually.
Speed Record: Layla Smith (118) moved up after her previous win to deliver a stunning 23-second pin, the fastest of the round for UDA.
Middleweight Grit: Jacelyn Henninger (136) bounced back from a tough first round to pin her opponent in 3:46, proving the resilience of the Trojan middle-lineup.
Unstoppable Ratcliffe: Chloe Ratcliffe (235) remained the most efficient wrestler on the mat, topping her previous performance with a lightning-fast 13-second pin.
The Road Ahead
While the team dual portion of the season comes to a close for the Trojans, the momentum from last night is a massive springboard for the individual postseason. UDA is poised to make significant noise at the upcoming Sectional and Regional individual tournaments.
