ELIZABETHVILLE — As the calendar turns to May, the Upper Dauphin Area softball team finds itself at a critical crossroads. With the Tri-Valley Athletic Association (TVAA) playoffs on the horizon and a slim hold on a district postseason berth, the Trojans are entering what may be the most defining week of their 2026 campaign.
Trojan Recap: Solid Positioning in the East
Upper Dauphin currently sits in a strong position within the TVAA East Division. Boasting a 10-2 league record (12-6 overall), the Trojans hold the #2 seed in the division. The team has shown significant resilience lately, coming off key victories against Newport (9-4) and Greenwood (6-2) to keep pace with the league's elite.
Under the TVAA playoff format, the top two seeds from each division, along with the two next-best records regardless of division, advance to the tournament. As it stands, Upper Dauphin is well-positioned to claim one of those coveted spots when the TVL playoffs begin on Monday, May 11.
The District III Bubble
While the league outlook is promising, the stakes are even higher on the regional stage. In the latest PIAA District III Class AAA rankings, Upper Dauphin occupies the #8 spot with a rating of 0.563864.
With the District III tournament taking only the top 8 teams, the Trojans are currently on the "bubble". They hold a narrow lead over #9 Tulpehocken (0.543166), meaning every remaining game carries immense weight for their postseason survival.
A "Goliath" Matchup Ahead
The Trojans face their toughest test of the season today, Monday, May 4, as they travel to take on Susquenita.
This matchup is a true heavyweight bout:
A strong showing against the top-ranked Blackhawks would not only boost Upper Dauphin's confidence but could provide a significant boost to their District power rating.
Upcoming Schedule
Following today's clash, the Trojans return home for another divisional test:
Wednesday, May 6: Line Mountain @ Upper Dauphin.
For Upper Dauphin, the mission is clear: win and they’re in. With the TVL playoffs just a week away, the Trojans control their own destiny in the hunt for championship gold.
