MIDDLEBURG, PA – While track and field is often a sport of inches and seconds, the Millersburg Indians found a much tastier metric for success this past Friday at the Midd-West Invitational. With local favorite Middlesworth Potato Chips sponsoring the event, the podium wasn't just about pride—it was about the snacks.
In a unique twist on the traditional awards ceremony, first-place finishers hauled home massive "Weekender" bags, while second and third-place finishers secured regular-sized bags. By the end of the night, the Millersburg bus was significantly better stocked for the ride home, thanks to a powerhouse performance by the girls' squad.
Girls’ Squad: A Top-Tier Finish
The Millersburg Girls’ team was the story of the night, finishing an impressive 4th overall out of 9 teams with 80 points. Competing against much larger programs, they trailed only Selinsgrove, Lower Dauphin, and Susquenita. Their success was built on absolute dominance in the field:
Javelin Sweep: Vivian Romberger took the top spot in the Girls Javelin (109-03), earning her a "Weekender" bag. Teammate Jada Dillard followed closely in 2nd place (101-11).
High Jump Excellence: Kate Rothermel soared to a 1st place finish, clearing 5-00.00 to claim her Weekender. The Indians showed incredible depth here, with Addilyn Snyder taking 3rd (4-06.00) and Fallon Savage finishing 4th (4-04.00).
Throws Prowess: Reagan Wentzel added another gold to the tally, winning the Girls Shot Put (33-07.75). Jada Dillard earned her second bag of the night with a 3rd place finish in the Shot Put (32-03.25), while Wentzel also grabbed 3rd in Discus (97-10).
Boys’ Squad: Grit Against a Tough Field
The Millersburg Boys’ team finished 10th overall with 20 points. While they faced stiff competition from the top of the leaderboard, they found several bright spots on the track and in the relays:
Speed & Hurdles: Kaeden Lohr secured points in both the 200m (5th place, 24.03) and the 100m (8th place, 11.74). Tavin Yates delivered a standout performance in the 300m Hurdles, clocking a 43.33 to take 4th place.
Distance & Relays: Gabe Matter fought through a tough field in the 3200m to finish 6th (11:02.29). The 4x400m relay team (Lohr, McGilvray, Williams, Yates) powered to a 5th place finish, and the 4x800m team took 6th.
The "Snack" Summary
Between the massive Weekender bags and the regular-sized "podium" snacks, the Millersburg throwing and jumping units were the clear winners of the "Middlesworth" era of track awards. With three individual event champions—Rothermel, Romberger, and Wentzel—the Indians proved that they have the talent to bring home the gold (and the BBQ flavor).
