Elizabethville, PA - In a tightly contested divisional matchup yesterday, the Upper Dauphin Area Trojans utilized a massive fifth-inning surge to pull away from the Greenwood Varsity Wildcats, earning a solid 6-2 victory. While the scoreboard remained tight through the first four frames, UDA's discipline at the plate and aggressive baserunning eventually wore down the Greenwood defense.
The Turning Point: A 4-Run Fifth
The game was a defensive stalemate early on, with both teams locked in a 1-1 tie heading into the bottom of the fifth. That’s when the Trojans' offense ignited. Upper Dauphin exploded for 4 runs in the inning, capitalizing on timely hitting and Greenwood miscues to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
Miley Yeager was the catalyst for the Trojans' offense, finishing the day with a team-high 3 RBIs on two hits.
Standout Performances
Offensive Spark: Along with Yeager, Jenna Teeter and Rowan Rickert each recorded a hit and an RBI. Lydia Engle showed off her power with a triple, finishing with 3 total bases.
Speed on the Paths: The Trojans were relentless on the bases, racking up 4 stolen bases—two coming from Brooke Crane, and one each from Layla Smith and Mckenna Schaffner.
In the Circle: The Trojans' pitching duo kept the Wildcats off balance all afternoon. Tenley Romberger started the game, striking out 5 over 4.0 innings of one-run ball. Nalona Jury came on in relief to earn the win, pitching 3.0 solid innings and allowing just one earned run.
Defensive Resilience
Despite a single error, the Trojans played a clean game compared to Greenwood's four defensive miscues. This composure allowed UDA to limit the damage when Greenwood attempted a late-game rally, highlighted by a Lilly Kessler home run in the sixth. With this win, the Trojans move forward with significant momentum, proving they can produce under pressure and capitalize when the game is on the line.
