The Lady Trojans of Upper Dauphin Area secured a decisive 36-24 victory over Northumberland Christian in a game of runs where offensive efficiency proved to be the difference-maker, particularly in the second half. Northumberland Christian started strong, outscoring Upper Dauphin Area 8-2 in the first quarter to take an early 6-point lead.
The momentum shifted dramatically in the middle quarters. The Lady Trojans responded with a 10-6 run in the second quarter to pull within two points by halftime (14-12). They then took control of the game in the third quarter, holding NC to a meager 2 points while scoring 10 themselves. This built a comfortable 6-point lead (22-16). Upper Dauphin Area closed the game definitively with their highest-scoring quarter (14 points) in the final period to seal the 36-24 victory.
Upper Dauphin Area Offense Powered by Dynamic Duo
The Lady Trojans' win was spearheaded by the outstanding performance of Paige Williams and Delaney Smeltz, who combined for 25 of the team’s 36 points. Williams led all scorers with 13 points and Smeltz was equally crucial, dropping 12 points .
Upper Dauphin Area’s ability to convert from deep was the key tactical advantage. The team finished with four successful three-pointers on 15 attempts, resulting in a solid 26.7% three-point percentage. This consistent perimeter threat helped the Lady Trojans compensate for a relatively low overall field goal percentage of 25.5% (13-of-51).
Northumberland Christian Struggles to Convert
Northumberland Christian battled hard, but scoring proved elusive. They were held to just 24 points total, shooting 20.5% from the field (9-of-44). The team's primary challenge was their lack of success from outside, connecting on only one three-pointer on 13 attempts (7.7%).
Emma Conner led the effort for Northumberland Christian, finishing with a team-high 7 points. Ava Phillips followed with 6 points. Their inability to maintain the first-quarter scoring pace against the stout Upper Dauphin Area defense led to a decisive turnaround in the game's outcome.
