Upper Dauphin Punches Ticket to Postseason with Gritty Win Over Mount Calvary

ELIZABETHVILLE, PA — Behind a balanced scoring attack and a dominant first half, the Upper Dauphin Area girls basketball team secured their spot in the postseason this past Friday, February 6th, defeating Mount Calvary 46-38.

The victory was more than just another "W" in the column; it officially propelled the Trojans into the District III Class AAA Playoffs. With the District taking only the top six teams for the tournament, Upper Dauphin’s win solidified their #6 ranking, ensuring their season continues into the playoffs which will begin on Monday, February 16th.


Key Performers

The Trojans utilized a "strength in numbers" approach to hold off a late-game surge from Mount Calvary.

  • Kate Rothermel & Paige Williams: The duo led the charge for Upper Dauphin, netting 14 points each. Williams was particularly effective from the charity stripe, knocking down four critical free throws.

  • Delaney Smeltz: Provided a spark from the perimeter, contributing 9 points, including one of the team’s two three-pointers.

  • Defensive Stand: While Mount Calvary’s Kylie Masters put up a game-high 23 points, the Trojans' defense stifled the rest of the roster, holding the remaining players to just 15 combined points.

Upper Dauphin set the tone early, outscoring Mount Calvary in each of the first three quarters. They headed into the locker room with a 25-18 halftime lead and extended that cushion to eight points by the start of the final frame.

The Road to Districts

With a final regular-season record of 12-10, the Trojans were able to edge out Littlestown and Annville-Cleona for that coveted final playoff spot.


District III Class AAA Standings (Top 6 Qualify):

The Trojans will now prepare for the opening round of the District III tournament, where they will travel to face #3 seed Columbia on Monday, February 16th.
