ELIZABETHVILLE — In a season-defining upset, the Upper Dauphin Area (UDA) boys basketball team took down the Tri-Valley League East’s top-seeded Line Mountain Eagles on Wednesday night, securing a 51-39 victory that shook up the divisional standings.

Knocking Off the King

Line Mountain entered the gymnasium as the leader of the East, carrying a dominant 9-1 league record into the contest. The Eagles have built their season on a foundation of "clamped-down" defense, boasting the second-best scoring defense in the TVL by holding opponents to just 40.73 points per game.

However, the Trojans refused to follow the script. UDA’s offense found cracks in the Eagles' armor, putting up 51 points—well above the average mark that usually wins games for Line Mountain. This victory was particularly sweet for the Trojans, as it served as a successful "revenge game" after losing their previous matchup to the Eagles in December.

Player Highlights: Balanced Attack Carries the Day

The Trojans' victory wasn't just about strategy; it was about execution. UDA relied on a "strength in numbers" approach to dismantle the Eagles' defense.

  • Maddox Barge (So., G): Barge was the engine of the offense, leading all scorers with 14 points. His ability to hit from beyond the arc and convert at the line kept the Eagles' defense on its heels all night.

  • Ian Weaver (Fr., G): The freshman continued his standout debut season, contributing 12 points. Weaver showed veteran-like poise down the stretch, knocking down 6-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

  • Kaide Heim (So., F): Heim provided a physical presence in the paint and on the perimeter, chipping in 11 points. His versatility on both ends of the floor anchored the Trojans' defensive effort.

  • Braden Foraker (So., F/C): Foraker dominated the glass and provided a crucial 6 points inside, forcing Line Mountain to commit extra attention to the low post.

On the Eagles' side, Kaiden Maurer led the effort with 9 points, while Brendon Jones added 7. However, UDA’s perimeter defense successfully limited the Eagles' high-percentage looks throughout the evening.

Standings Shakedown

The ripple effects of UDA's victory were felt immediately across the league. By handing Line Mountain their second league loss, the Trojans have forced a tie at the top of the TVL East between Line Mountain and Susquenita now both sit at 9-2 in league play.

Quick Turnaround

The celebration will have to be short-lived for the Trojans. They are back on the hardwood tonight, Thursday, January 29, for another high-stakes rivalry game as they travel to face the Halifax Wildcats. Meanwhile, the Eagles will attempt to right the ship as they host Millersburg.
