WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Upper Dauphin Area (UDA) varsity softball team made a loud statement this past weekend, showcasing a blend of elite power pitching and a relentless offensive attack at the annual Williamsport Tournament. The Trojans finished the two-day showcase with a 2–1 record, outscoring their opponents 28–20 in a series of high-stakes matchups.
Friday: A Slugging Split
The tournament opened on Friday with a classic shootout against a potent Loyalsock squad. Despite a 14–10 loss, the Trojans proved they could trade blows with the best. Amaya Hoffman put on a masterclass at the plate, launching two home runs and finishing with four RBIs. Miley Yeager was a force in the circle, racking up an incredible 14 strikeouts in the loss. Naiona Jury and Lydia Engle also contributed significantly, each tallying two hits and two RBIs.
UDA didn't let the opening loss linger, rebounding immediately in their second game of the day with a dominant 11–1 mercy-rule victory over Union-Endicott (NY). Naiona Jury took the reins in the circle, stifling the Tigers with a masterful two-hitter and nine strikeouts. The offense provided plenty of cushion, led by Langstyn Everhart, who cleared the bases with a three-RBI double. Hoffman remained red-hot, adding three more hits to her daily total, while Engle chipped in another double and two RBIs.
Saturday: Gritty Victory Closes the Weekend
Returning to the field Saturday morning, the Trojans faced a disciplined Delaware Valley team. In a game defined by poise and timely relief pitching, UDA secured a 7–5 win to finish the weekend on a high note.
The Trojans jumped ahead thanks to multi-hit performances from Jury and Hoffman, while Engle continued her run-producing tear with two more RBIs. As the Warriors threatened late, UDA turned to Yeager in relief. She was lights-out, throwing 3.2 innings of no-hit baseball and fanning seven batters to slam the door and earn the save.
By the Numbers: A Dominant Trio
The weekend was defined by three standout statistical performances that paced the Trojans:
Amaya Hoffman: Finished the weekend with a staggering 7 hits, 2 home runs, and 7 RBIs.
Lydia Engle: Served as the team’s "clutch" factor, finishing with 6 RBIs and multiple extra-base hits.
The Pitching Tandem: Yeager and Jury combined for a massive 30 strikeouts over the three-game stretch, keeping opposing hitters off-balance regardless of the score.
Looking Ahead
The Trojans leave Williamsport having proven they possess the depth to compete in high-scoring marathons and the defensive grit to win tight, late-inning battles. With a lineup firing on all cylinders and a pitching staff recording double-digit strikeouts, UDA returns to conference play this week as one of the most dangerous teams in the region.
