Elizabethville, PA — The Upper Dauphin Tip-Off Tournament got underway last night, featuring four girls' basketball teams competing for the early-season title. The first-round games, which were part of the regular season schedule, saw Mount Carmel and Williams Valley advance to today's championship final.
The host team, Upper Dauphin Area (1-2), entered the tournament with a 1-1 record but struggled in their opening round, falling to a strong Mount Carmel squad.
Mount Carmel's Defense Tops UDA
In the opening game, the Mount Carmel Red Tornadoes showcased a stifling defense, defeating the host Upper Dauphin Area Trojans with a final score of 33-7. Mount Carmel held the Trojans to just five points through the first half and shut out UDA completely in the third quarter. This loss drops UDA's overall record to 1-2.
Mount Carmel’s offense was paced by Raina Paulson, who led all scorers with 11 points, and Hannah Fourspring, who added 10 points.
Upper Dauphin's scoring was limited, with Kate Rothermel and Paige Williams each contributing 3 points for the Trojans.
In the second first-round matchup, the Williams Valley Vikings secured their spot in the finals with a convincing 44-17 victory over Northumberland Christian. The Vikings controlled the game from start to finish to earn their ticket to the title game.
