ELIZABETHVILLE, PA — In a Tri-Valley League matchup that began as a back-and-forth slugfest, it was a massive 13-run explosion in the fourth inning that allowed Halifax to pull away for a commanding 20-5 victory over the Upper Dauphin Area on Thursday.
Early Fireworks
The game opened with high energy as both offenses found their rhythm early. Halifax struck first in the top of the first inning when Zahurak lined a double to drive in the game’s opening run. Upper Dauphin answered immediately in the bottom half; Grassmyer sent a towering home run to right field, flipping the score to 2-1 in favor of the Trojans.
The lead proved short-lived. In the top of the second, Halifax capitalized on a Trojan error and a two-run single by Zahurak to reclaim a 5-2 advantage.
The Long Ball Battle
Upper Dauphin refused to go away quietly, using the home run ball to chip back into the contest.
Bottom 2nd: Jackson crushed a two-run homer to right field, cutting the deficit to one.
Bottom 3rd: Engle joined the home run parade with a solo shot to left field, knotting the game at 5-5.
The Fourth Inning Collapse
The competitive tension evaporated in the top of the fourth. Halifax sent waves of batters to the plate, recording seven hits in the frame to score a staggering 13 runs. While a two-RBI single by Wilson served as a major highlight, Halifax benefited from disciplined plate appearances and aggressive base running throughout the rally.
