DUNCANNON – The Susquenita Blackhawks asserted their dominance in the second half, especially in a pivotal third quarter, to defeat the Upper Dauphin Trojans 39–28 in a Tri-Valley League girls' basketball game held this past Thursday.
The game started as a tight defensive battle, with the Trojans holding a narrow 3–2 advantage at the close of the first quarter. Susquenita began to find its offensive rhythm in the second period, outscoring Upper Dauphin 12–9 to take a precarious 14–12 lead into halftime.
The turning point arrived emphatically in the third quarter. The Blackhawks' offense exploded for 19 points, while their defense clamped down completely, denying Upper Dauphin any points in the entire eight-minute frame. This decisive 19–0 run in the third quarter transformed a close contest into a commanding lead that the Trojans could not overcome. Despite a strong 16-point effort in the fourth quarter by Upper Dauphin, the deficit proved too substantial to bridge.
"We really locked in defensively in that third quarter," Susquenita Coach [Coach's Name, if available] commented after the game. "Our girls executed the game plan and made some crucial adjustments that allowed us to create separation."
Key Performers
For the victorious Blackhawks, Claire Wechsler led all scorers with 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers that helped ignite the offense. Kylah Fleisher contributed 8 points, while Braelyn Prinz and Kaydon Brandt each added 7 points to a balanced scoring attack.
Upper Dauphin saw four players—Alana Bingaman, Kate Rothermel, Paige Williams, and Delaney Smeltz—each record 7 points, accounting for all of the team's scoring.
