ELIZABETHVILLE — In a performance defined by defensive grit and offensive precision, the Upper Dauphin Area Trojans dismantled the Newport Buffaloes on Monday night, cruising to a 49–25 victory. The win serves as a major statement for UDA as they continue to climb the Tri-Valley standings.
From the opening tip-off at the Gordan E. Foster Gymnasium, the story of the night was sophomore standout Maddox Barge. The crafty guard was everywhere, orchestrating the Trojan offense with a level of poise that left Newport’s defenders scrambling.
The Barge Effect
Barge set the tone early, connecting on back-to-back transition buckets to ignite the home crowd. While his scoring was vital, his ability to penetrate the Buffaloes' zone and find open teammates like Kaide Heim and Braden Foraker kept Newport's defense on its heels all night.
"We knew we had to push the pace and keep them uncomfortable," said the UDA Head Coach Adam Zigner. "Maddox did a phenomenal job of seeing the floor and making sure we stayed in rhythm."
Defensive Masterclass
While Barge led the charge on offense, UDA’s collective defense was the night's silent hero. The Trojans executed a stifling press that forced Newport into a series of unforced errors and difficult shots. The 25 points surrendered was a season-low for the UDA defense, effectively neutralizing Newport’s top scoring threats.
The loss sends Newport to a difficult 2–10 overall record and a winless 0–6 in league play. Despite the best efforts of Newport’s Landon Zaring, the Buffaloes simply couldn't find an answer for the Trojans' intensity.
